The Good Oil.

It’s a common belief that the benefits of oil for your skin are limited to massages. Well, have we got news for you… Oils provide incredible therapeutic, soothing and hydrating benefits to your face and body. So read on for our guide to all things oil…

Using oils for beauty goes all the way back to the days of the ancient Greeks, Roman and Egyptians,

who learned to extract precious essences from plants to moisturise, smooth, nourish and heal the skin. Today the vast majority of oils used in skincare products are still derived from these botanical sources that provide so many extraordinary benefits.

OILS VS MOISTURISER
There is a reason why both oils and moisturisers have a prominent place in the beauty industry, they each have their own distinct purposes in your routine, which is why it is so important to use oils in conjunction with a good moisturiser. Since skin is made up of both moisture and oil, it needs both for maximum benefit. Moisturiser hydrates the skin, while oils nourish it, giving your beauty routine an extraordinary boost.

OILS AND OILY SKIN
If you are someone who has oily skin, you may think oils are not for you, but think again. Often people with oily skin types tend to strip their skin of all of its oils, which often has the opposite effect than desired when the skin produces more oil. Giving the skin a little oil can trick it into thinking it has enough and stops it from producing more. Oils such as Jojoba oil are incredibly beneficial to oily skin as it mimics the skin’s natural sebum, helping to balance oil production.

HOW TO APPLY OILS
Apply two to three drops to damp cleansed skin, this helps to provide an even coverage and helps the oil to sink in. Unlike moisturiser, you do not want to rub the oils in. Instead, using the whole surface of your hands gently smooth and press the oil onto your cleansed skin, avoiding your eye area. After applying the oil, follow with your chosen moisturiser.

Applying a facial oil over a moisturiser can work well for older or dryer skin as it seals the moisture in and protects the skin.
Those with very dry skin may benefit from applying oil day and night, whilst those with more oily skin types may find that applying once a day, particularly at night time, offers the most benefit.
